The Catbirds & Farm Animals

This morning in Art Class, Amanda demonstrated how to do observational drawing. Each Catbird chose a picture to copy - either of a castle or a city (because that's usually where superheroes and royalty are found).

Using Sharpies, friends looked at the shapes in the picture and worked hard to draw them on their own paper.

We even got to add small details, like windows and grass, with the skinny marker.

Afterward, the Catbirds painted with watercolors on top.

Snack outside! Art makes us hungry.

At Morning Meeting, we sang "Make New Friends"

And some Catbirds shared with the class their digital Superhero portrait

There were many thumbs-up and superhero poses that expressed the Catbirds' love of our new Charlie & Lola book. This one was called My Best Best Friend.

Then we had some Choice Time!

After Choice Time, we had a very special surprise. At the Meetinghouse there was a petting zoo! So we excitedly made our way over...

(stopping in the middle school to see these amazing wire sculptures)

There was a two-month-old calf named Doodle

And a goat named Franklin

We even got to feed them

Rabbits and chickens and hens, too

There was so, so much joy!

Feeding them tickled our hands

Even a turkey and a goose (not pictured)

We then headed back to the classroom for lunch time, happily chatting about our favorite animals and what we liked best.
