Motivation

A little time to come in and say hello.

Off to assembly, where we sang some songs and then heard a story and a poem by Catalina. It was a very interactive tale, and the 6th grade was there to help with the telling.

We headed out for a short runabout.

Then we come in for a puppet show. First, we added a new word and concept to our story understanding - motivation. Carol explained the meaning, and then said, "If Matthew went out that door, what might be his motivation - what are some reasons he might do that?" Friends gave really great answers. "To stretch his legs." "To take out a stink bug." "To go and play." "Because he wants to splash in the pond." We told the Catbirds to think about the characters motivation in the story, and that they would have a chance to ask them questions after. Then, Amy and Carol performed, "ThePaper Bag Princess."

We dont have photos of the actual performance, due to a shortage of hands. However, it was a very successful show, and friends had new insights about why the characters did what they did.

The Paper Bag Princess.

Snack outside.

Ladybugs. Raji explaining how they turn into ladybugs.

Off on a walkabout (it was too nice to go inside).

We stopped to play some games.

Back to the playground. Some work on superhero stories and some building.

Inside, we read, Strega Nona, before gathering for lunch.
