Describing Things

Morning routine...

Music class, outside.

We played some listening games.

After Aedin read us Eric Carle's book, Ten Little Rubber Ducks, we took turns secretly being the rubber duck. We moved around to the music, stopped when the music stopped, and then guessed who the duck was by listening for the squeak.

We listened to music and another book about hatching eggs. We clapped to the music and guessed who was hatching.

Then we got to hatch!

Then we practiced our Mexican Hat Dance. The Catbirds are getting quite good at it!

We decided to spend as much time as possible outside today.

We worked on a photo project. Friends took pictures of one another, posing as super heroes!

We gathered everyone to look at the roped-off grass, and to wonder whether it would grow bigger than us.

There was lots of building, mixing and digging going on.

At Morning Meeting, we sang some songs.

After our Moment of Silence, Amy read, There's an Alligator Under My Bed.

The book got pretty good reviews. Next, we analyzed the story for characters, setting and mood.

We handed out bags that had something in them. First, we asked friends to describe how it sounded. Then, we had them close their eyes and describe the smell. Next, they reached in and touched. Finally, they looked at the pine leaves and tried to come up with words that described how it looked. Friends are working on thinking in descriptive terms, as part of generating good stories.
