A Good Story

Sign in and free play.

Art Class! Today, we used collage to create patterns with different geometric shapes on a grid.

Understanding patterns is not only an artistic skill, but also important in mathematical, musical and literary learning. Friends begin with a simple understanding of basic one-two patterns, and gradually add greater complexity.

Back in Catbird Land, we had some amazing dramatic play - with friends negotiating car races and large families (with multiple pets).

We have also begun to write a new Building Book - as our skills have far surpassed our initial expertise.

We had a special snack for a friends birthday!

Then headed out in our boots. The pond was a popular location.

At Morning Meeting, we read a new book, then used our growing story skills to analyze it. It was, interestingly enough, dubbed "a good book about a boy being bad." Friends identified the characters, feelings and setting. We will continue to explore the art of storytelling, through the books that we read and the stories that we create.

Choice Time included:

Using Flubber in a whole new way,

Preparing our peat pots for planting,

and Legos.

We are also emptying the sandbox, and creating sandbags that are different weights. We will be introducing new materials to the sensory table (friends are learning how to play "20 Questions," to figure out what is going in there).

Then, we took our flubber and did an experiment with it. The Catbirds were incredibly excited to see what would happen.

Tomorrow is Arbor Day! We will be attending some of the ceremonies, so naps probably will not happen tomorrow.
