Rhythms and Old Friends

Jason came to get us this morning, and Pied Pipered us down to the Music Room.

There were new instruments out in the room, and, at first, we marched and sang around them.

Then, we stepped close...and stepped back. And stepped close...and stepped back! It was funny, getting so close and then stepping away.

Soon enough, we got to sit down and play them. After we played one, then we got up and marched around again, and sat down at a different instrument.

Then, Jason went to the piano to play a song, and we matched the rhythm. Friends had many ideas about how we could play - louder and softer and faster and slower. Learning to hear and play rhythms is not only a great musical skills, it also helps related skills - like reading!

Next, we marched with Jason over to the rug and he read us a book called, Rap-A-Tap-Tap. After each phrase in the book, there was a place for us to add in a rhythm. We got very good at it.

Too soon, it was time to go. Some friends gave the teachers piggyback rides back to the room. They are amazingly strong.

When we got back, we had a surprise visitor - Jo Jo! Many of our friends were in her classroom last year and were happy to see her and give her hugs. She even came outside with her baby, James.

Outside, the Catbirds were finding all kinds of new ways to play together and to be friend-ish. We had to keep moving, because it was VERY CHILLY!

Back inside, we gathered for Morning Meeting. We first had a Moment of Food Noises, and then a Moment of Silence.

A new puppet came to visit us, and asked us to help give him a name. He is now officially, Mister Nice Puppy Cow (There was some debate about his actual species).

He read us a new book called, Jack's Chair, and helped us figure out what Jack was feeling in the story. Mister Nice Puppy Cow also kept getting the book in his mouth, so he couldn't talk. Friends found this hysterically funny.

And then we had Choice Time...
