Music with Jason and a Walkabout

Recently, the Catbirds have been very interested in writing with pens in their journals. So when the Catbirds came in today, they had 3 very LARGE new pens to journal with.

Some friends took time to water their plants. The only problem was the squirt bottle stopped working. So friends took it over to Carol to see if she could fix it, and when she tried it, she squirted it in friends' faces. The Catbirds thought this was so funny that they kept pretending that the squirt bottle was broken, so that they could come to get squirted.

We then headed off to see one of the many Rock stars at AFS, Jason! We began by marching around the instruments and singing a song. Then we sang the Hello song while Jason played along on the piano.

Jason then introduced us to  Mallets. He told us that some of the mallets are hard and others are soft. We tried banging a few on the ground to decide if they were hard or soft. Friends were very good at guessing which was which. Next, Jason had us pick two Mallets from the pile - the tricky part was that they could not be the same one! This way friends could hear the different sounds the various mallets made. Once each friend choose their mallets, we were able to play on the xylophones and gongs and marimbas that were placed around the Music Room.

Some friends played nice and loud while others played very softly.

The best part was ALL the Catbirds shared their xylophones with friends.

We ended Music class with a song by Jason and said our Thank Yous and Good Byes!

When we got back to our classroom, we bundled up and headed outside to play.

Some friends served Danielle food through the window in the play structure.

One friend even hid in the "cave" that we had made!

Since it was such a beautiful sunny day, we decided to set out on an adventure!

Our first stop was the Lower School playground. This is a great place for the Catbirds to practice their gross motor skills because it requires a lot of climbing! At first, friends needed assistance from their teachers, but after a few tries, friends got the hang of it and were able to climb without a problem!

We then continued on our journey where we noticed a very large tree. Friends looked very closely, and saw lots of very teeny tiny black bugs!

There was also a hole in the tree, and we tried to guess who might live in there.

We finished our walk by heading inside where we visited our usual spots. We also saw Crissy, Nancy, Justin and Danielle's Daddy, and we hug attacked each one!

We finished up our day with Morning Meeting, a Moment of Silence and a small Choice Time. Friends choices were either books or Sand Table.

** Tomorrow is also PAJAMA DAY! Please send your Catbird in wearing their best PJ's! Please also make sure that they have appropriate shoes and clothes for when we go outside.**

At the very end of our day, we made a special salad for our worms out of tiny scraps of paper and an over-rip pear. To the worms, it looked delicious!
