Physics, Nature, Art, Literature, Science, Social Studies, Math

After journaling, we headed off to the 1st grade class to buy stamps - some of them came back in the mouths of monsters.

We then began our study of physics, using our new Newton's Cradle.
Here were some of the interested Catbird's Scientific observations about how it works:

Rowan: I think it has little sticky things that you can't see. They go up to sideways.
Mason: If you slow it down, you do it more gentle. It'll go more slow and faster
Matthew: It goes slowly. It stops. They're going fast. (How?) Like my fingers go up and they go down. They're clapping together!
Tori: When I get this little ball, it claps and claps and claps. And when I grab two, it goes faster.
Paige: It's too fast.We grab it and then it's really faster. I took two and that one bounces and I do that.
Hadley: I did this and took that and it went that way. You take one and it goes, too. And it goes switch into a spot. (Do you have any advice for the next friend?) You have to be careful with it, Katy.
Katy: Because it is fragile and it breaks really easily and um...I see little things (closely examining balls) and it's sort of like...it's a little tangled like. It's like if I take three and leave two alone and...It's like it's DANCING! It's like it's sticky. WOW!
Lucas: Maybe it's clicking! That's really fast!. The ball goes up high, and then it goes great. It's swinging! You have to hold on and it swings the ball like this. HIYA! This one's really high!

Nature:
Outside, we studied the dry pond bed and the rocks. Some of them were split, and we looked inside.

Art:
We used clay and embellished our sculptures with color and sticks.

Literature and Social Studies:
We composed letters to our friends learned about the postal service. We read many books.

More Science: Sound

Math: Abacus

Science: Magnetism

More Science

More Art

More Social Studies: Mailing our letters

We are not sure about this category, but we are planning on asking the Third graders to explain it to us next week.
