Pirate Catbirds

This morning. the Guinea Pigs got a new addition to their cage - an edible house! Friends helped Carol drill holes in a piece of wood to build the roof. Princess Froggy and Popcorn LOVE their new house!

Some friends took a trip back in time to the Jurassic Period. We met and learned about Dimetrodons, Lycaenops, Nothosaurus and many more. We learned that Dimetrodons are 11 feet tall which is the same height as 3 1/2 Catbirds or that Lycaenops are 3 feet tall which is the size of 1 Catbird. Please feel free to use the "Catbird measurement" at home. Measure your Catbird (your child not the bird), and then measure an item in your house to see how many Catbirds it takes to equal that item.

Once we left the Jurassic Era, we headed off to sea in our boat! Friends paddled their way into open waters where they came upon a Pirate ship. The Catbirds out smarted the pirates and were able to get away quickly.

After we docked our boat, we planted and watered our flowers, ate snack and bundled up to head outside.

Outside, the Catbirds found many more new ways to play. Some friends kicked up their feet and relaxed in the pond to gaze at the clouds. Friends said that the clouds looked liked a boat, a dog, drums and even Jason. Friends talked about how when the sun can out from behind the clouds, it got a little warmer!

In the block building area, we saw a really cool structure that the Kindergartners built. We decided that we should build one as well. So friends got together and took all the large sticks we could find and leaned them up against the fence to create a fort! But there was not that many sticks that we could use, so we decided to go to the shed to see if there were any building materials in there. Instead of items to build with, we found a parachute!

Friends sang songs and made the parachute go high in the air and created big waves!

To finish up our morning, we headed inside for a Moment of Pirate Noises and a Moment of Silence. Carol also read us the book called Tough Boris. Next, we had Choice Time where friends buried their treasures in the Sand Table, Painted treasure maps on the Easel, and created patterns with the Pattern Blocks.
