Using Our Senses

For much of our day, we played around with our senses. First, making it so we couldn't see.

Then using our eyes to jump from one color to the next.

We started a new question, based on a book that Gwen read to us yesterday: Is Spike (the chameleon) a Monster? All the votes are not yet in.

We have some new headphones in the Catbird classroom, that make things quiet. Friends tried different ones on and tried to decide which was the quietest. We also talked about what quiet sounds like, and what friends could still here.

We read a story and sang some songs.

Then we headed off to find out what had become of the balloons full of water that we had put in the freezer. Before we left, we practiced using our medium, quiet and invisible voices by singing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."

On our way, we ran into the upper school music teacher and a visitor to the school. He said "Hello, how are you?" and we stopped to sing him, "Say Hello, and How Are You?" (Later, we found out that he was Buster Williams, the visiting musician! No wonder we felt compelled to sing to him! More about him later)

On our way downstairs, friends noticed some smells in the air, so we stopped to sniff and try and guess what the were. Everyone was pretty sure that it was lunch being made, but there were many opinions about what food it was. A number of friends thought it might be pickles!

When we got to the freezer, we took our container out and it was cold! We used our hands to tell, although we weren't sure how our hands knew.

When we opened the container, our balloons were hard and SOOOOO COLD that they made our hands hurt if we touched them too long! Luckily, we brought bags to carry them in, so everyone picked a balloon and we headed back.

We stopped to show them to a number of friends on our way back.

Then we put them in bowls  and started to explore. We had hammers to tap on them and many friends found that their balloons were easy to peel off.

After the balloons came off, we put on safety glasses so we could hammer some more! Ice was flying around!

When we were done hammering, we put them in the water table and added some water. They got very slippery! Other choices included:
