Printing Snow

After several songs, a Moment of Car Horns and a Moment of Silence, we had another visit with our puppet friends. This time, they were having a problem because they both wanted the same toy. The Catbird's had many ideas to help them and  friends LOVE the puppets.

Next, we had a story, Shoo Fly, that was one of the library books that the Catbirds checked out.

Next, friends had Choice Time. We had watercolors, using a white crayon as a resist.

We had moon sand, and friends taught each other how to build towers and castles.

The puppets were busy in the kitchen area.

Friends also continued to vote on the question of Spike's monsterhood (there is a slight majority in the 'yes' column, with 82% of the votes tabulated).

Our friend introduced a new card game, where the Catbirds try to get the highest score without getting the "Buster" card.

We had Art with Sam. First we gathered on the rug, and Sam introduced us to pastels and explained that we would be making art about the weather. She showed us the kinds of marks we could make with the pastels. Then, she said we would be making snowflake prints using real printmaking tools, like a brayer (roller) and printer's ink!

We went to the tables and started with the pastels, making swirly windy patterns.

Then it was time to print. We rolled wintery colors of ink onto the styrofoam snowflakes, then pressed them on our paper and peeled them off.

There were snowflakes!

We loved this way of making art!

We bundled up and headed outside. We "skated" on the pond.

We ran and balanced and rolled and played monster chase! We got good and cold and then came in for yoga and stories. We were very hungry for lunch. A nice day.
