Birthdays Galore!

Today we had not one, not two, but THREE birthdays! This meant that we had two very delicious treats and lots of excited friends. We sang a long Happy Birthday song and then friends blew out their candles. We had cupcakes and fruit dipped in chocolate.

Right after, we decide that we should go outside and run around.

Many wild animals came out, and we spent some time making up stories with sound effects on the marimba.

Next, it was time for Art with Sam.

First, she told us some things about paper making. We learned that paper comes from trees, and that we would be making paper by recycling old paper.

First, we tore up paper and soaked it in water. Then, it went in the blender - it was pretty loud.

We put the frames in with the paper pulp and water and shook them around until they were covered. Then we took them out and started to dry the sheet of paper with big sponges.

Everybody got a turn, and we got to pick the color of paper we wanted to make.

We left the still wet sheets in the Art room. I think we will be using our own paper to make some other art!

Back in the room, we had Choice Time. There were: magnatiles,

and dramatic play with the doctor's kits

We also started working on emptying out the rice from our sand table. Over lunch, we brainstormed ideas about what we should put in the sand table.
This was the list of possibilities that we generated*:
Crocodiles and alligators
Oranges
Pillows (from my house)
Crooks
Snakes
Magnatiles
Pretzels
Milk
Hot Dogs
Lunch
Stuffed Animals
Paper
Monkeys
Rocks
Bears (the gummi kind)
Ice Cream
A box
Lamps
A Snowman

*The list does not include the many side conversations about where we could get (say, alligators or crooks), or what we might feed (monkeys, etc.), whether we were talking about pretend or real (i.e. snakes) and the long discussion about the dreadful lack of snow, and therefore, snowmen.
More questions to come!
