Talking Together

It was a funny morning. Friends made up some new games, a giant teddy bear came through,

and we ran outside to Hug Attack Danielle's dad. Then we went to check out the new feature on our Playhouse.

Inside, we turned into a herd of kittens, and went to report on attendance to Tricia.

We also sang her "Baa-Baa Black Sheep."

Friends spent a lot of time with their favorite books - being read to, and reading to each other.

Later, back outside, we took some time to test our bodies. Friends are growing increasingly faster, stronger and more balanced.

We headed out on an adventure: In Search of Acorns. Before we took the shortcut through the school, we carefully put our screams in a bag and sealed it up - to be opened when we got to the Puddle Tree. We rolled down the hill in the hall.

We spotted some squirrels outside, and took that opportunity to learn a new song: Grey Squirrel  (friends particularly enjoyed the part where they got to "swish their bushy tails.").

When we got to the Puddle Tree, we opened our bag of screams. It was REALLY loud!

We went searching for acorns, and found some ginkgo nuts instead. They are slightly smelly, so not as good as acorns, but we collected a few - even some that were partly opened. We may take them to Roseanne (the Science teacher), to see what she can tell us about them.

We continued our search, and even ended up climbing through a forest. Still no acorns.

Then, we saw our friends, The Owls, and went to visit them. They decided to walk back with us, and help us search.

We still didn't find any acorns, but we discovered many leaves AS BIG AS OUR HEADS!!!

When we returned, we had some more time to read with our friends, and then it was lunchtime. Friends are getting better and better at joining into our somewhat diverse lunchtime discussions. Today, there was an extended conversation about, "things that bother your lips." (Hey, I didn't start this one, I'm only the facilitator). Talking together at lunch is one of my favorite activities of the day. Friends are just developing the idea of having a shared conversation, so I am eager to help them talk about virtually anything that pops up. It is a time when we build our relationships with one another, our sense of community and it is an important way to foster social development. It is also a great deal of fun and usually hysterically funny.
