Music Class with Jason

The Catbirds had a jam packed morning. We began our morning writing in our journals. Some friends drew big scary hairy monsters and fish, and others drew big pink and purple bananas, circles and sticks. The Catbirds are becoming experts journal-ers. Friends are drawing and explaining their pictures with more detail. Monsters are no longer just monsters they are big, hairy, scary monsters, so be careful!

Friends also worked on beading beautiful necklaces. This is a great activity for friends to work on because it helps develop their fine motor skills.

The Catbirds went for a visit to see Tricia to tell her who was not in school today. Before we left we sang Make New Friends (Tricia's favorite song), The Itsy Bitsy Spider, The Teeny Tiny Spider and The Great Big Hairy Spider.

When we returned back to our classrooms we had Morning Meeting and a Moment of Silence. Carol read us a story called My Friend is Sad. Friends thought it was funny when Piggie dressed up like a cowboy, a clown and a robot!

Today, we aslo had Music class with Jason! Friends were very excited because on our adventures we always walk pass the Music room and hear music playing!

Jason taught us a new hello song.

Say Hello (clap twice)
And How are you! (clap twice)
Say Hello (clap twice)
And How are you! (clap twice)
Say Hello and get down
And get down
And get down (wiggle to the left and right pointing with your thumbs down to the ground)
Say Hello (clap twice)
And How are you! (clasp twice)

The friends enjoyed this song, especially when Jason played the piano!

Jason also had a surprise instrument wrapped in a scarf. Each friend was able to feel the scarf and make a guess on what they thought it might be. Friends guessed that it was a caterpillar, a puppy and butterflies.

But Jason tricked us - it was a slide whistle! When Jason blew into the whistle and pulled down the handle it made a funny noise that made friends laugh. We then played a game using the slide whistle. Every time Jason made a low sound we bent down and touch the ground and when he played a high noise we reached up to the sky!

We finished up music class by singing a song and shaking our shaker eggs. We shook them really fast, really slow, way up high and way down low!

On our way back to our classroom we pretended that we were kitty cats so we crawled and meowed the entire way! To finish up our morning we went outside to play. It has been very exciting to watch friends play on our new play structure and in the different centers. Most of the Catbirds can be found digging or playing in the mud kitchen and splashing in the pond. Since the Catbirds LOVE to get dirty and wet please make sure that your Catbird has multiple changes of clothes (please remember socks!).
