Balloons, Brushes and Stick Horses

A word about our mornings: When the Catbirds first come in, we usually have a chunk of time that we use for both journals and free play. It is one of my favorite times of the day (although I admit to having many favorite times of the day). It's a time that friends use to wake up and reconnect and get a feel for the day. It is mostly unscripted (by the big people), and we get a chance to talk to one another. Friends tell us what's on their minds, share ideas and snuggle. New games are invented, new ways of interacting are tested out. It is the intense work of childhood, happily attended to.

We had a lot of extra energy this morning, so we went outside early. There, we found horses that needed captured and taming.

Mysterious berries.

We had Morning Meeting, and Sam the Art Teacher joined us, to demonstrate one of today's choices.

She explained that we would be making our t-shirts for the Big Show, by painting on them with balloons!

Everyone got a turn to paint their shirt.

We also had the keyboard and harp out, and friends were playing duets, and occasional trios.

We were also building in the block area...

...and mixing and measuring in the sensory table.

Back outside, friends organized a game of Hide and Seek (and Run and Chase). There was also Stump Jumping and Hole Digging. Soon, it was time to go in for stories and lunch. We had a very giggly meal together, and then had time for some more stories.
