Box Hunting

This morning, after journaling, we decided to decorate the boxes that we were using yesterday. Soon, we realized that there simply were not enough vehicles for all of the trips we had to take and all of the friends who wanted to go along. So, we wrote a letter to everyone in the school, to see if they had any extra boxes.

On our way to see Tricia, something strange happened. Many Catbirds turned into kittens (this was not the strange part), then they couldn't move! We were stuck in the hallway with meowing kittens who couldn't walk. Friends came by with all kinds of suggestions - catnip, magic spells, songs, milk - none of them worked. So, we decided to move back into the Commons and play there.

This seemed to cure everyone. We built ramps, obstacle courses and puzzles.

It was the perfect rainy/sleety/snowy day activity.

There was lots of teamwork and much negotiating.

Luckily, Carol had her Super Hero cape on today, so there was no problem we couldn't handle.

After snack, we decided to go for a walkabout to see if we could find any boxes. We found some new Art-ish Science in the hallways. they were ocean creatures made out of clay, and different friends knew what different ones were. We found a Starfish, a Shark, a Crab, a Jellyfish and a Sea Turtle. There were several that nobody knew, but we found a sign that told us the 4rth graders made them, so we will  have to go and ask them.

We went into several different offices and discovered a number of boxes along the way. It took some teamwork to carry them.

Then, we stopped to see our friend, Nancy. She was on the phone when we got there, so we waited outside of her window until she gave us the signal to come in. Then, we sang two songs for her: Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Baa Baa Black Sheep. She was very impressed, and gave us each an animal cracker.

When we made it back to our classroom, we started decorating our new boxes.

Chris, the Chef from the cafeteria, brought some more boxes up. Then Danielle read a book called, This is Not a Box, about the many things a box can be. We decided to make our boxes in to different things tomorrow.

This is us, cheering, Go, Boxes!

We had lunch, and it was hard to sit still, because it started really snowing while we were eating. So, after lunch we put our coats on and headed outside for some snow play.

It was slippery and slushy and tasty. We caught snowflakes in our mouths and made very slushy snowballs to throw.

We even caught snowflakes on our eyelashes! When we got back inside, friends snuggled into their cozy sleeping mats with a favorite book, before getting some much needed rest.
