Experiments and Music

We began our day in the usual ways.

We finished our first volume of Catbird Stories.

Then, of course, we had to read them!

We had Meeting for Worship in the Music Room.

Back in the room, there was the singing of the Puff the Magic Dragon book.

Then, we decided to do an experiment with the leftover t-shirt dye. First, we wonder what would happen if we dipped some paper in. Then, we wondered about a paper towel and then a tissue.

Next, we decided to try different colors of paper. We learned the word, hypothesis, about making guesses about what would happen.

Friends took notes.

Next, we decided to try leaving more paper in for different periods of time - until after lunch AND after rest time.

We headed outside for snack, while we waited for our special guest to arrive.

When Franklin came, we hurried in and sat on the Morning Meeting rug.

Franklin teaches strings in the lower school and he plays the cello.

He told us all about his instrument, and taught us the names of the string instruments, from violin to double bass.

He made his cello sound like it was laughing.

We found that very funny.

We all got comfortable and he play us some classical music.

He taught us piano (soft) and forte (loud).

We showed him our violin, and he tuned it for us and taught us all of the parts.

Then, we got to play it while he changed the notes.

The Catbirds were thrilled when they played Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!

Then it was Choice Time.

Musical instruments were popular.

We also worked on our Catbird drawings.

Out after lunch purple paper.

Our after rest time paper. We are going to wait until it dries to see what it looks like.
