Morning meeting. Pierre the Puppet came to visit again, and we filled Amy in on what the class had taught him about creating a good story.

We started a list on the flip chart: What You Need to Make a Good Story
Here's what we have so far:

Characters (like dragons and princesses)
A location: like a castle or a forest. Somewhere for the story to be
It should be long - more than just a few words
Bad guys AND good guys
Feelings

This is where the discussion got even more interesting. It began with the assertion that stories should be scary. When Pierre asked if ALL stories were scary, friends said no. Some good stories are happy. The Catbirds also noted that they knew of good stories that are funny. Pierre then asked them if any good stories were sad. Initially, everyone said, "Nooooooo." Then, Pierre asked if any friends knew of stories that had sad PARTS. Hands went flying into the air. Friends cited all kinds of stories that had very sad parts - the death of Simba's father in The Lion King, Little Foot's mother dying in The Land Before Time, when Anna freezes to save her sister, in Frozen. The Catbirds said that it was okay to have sad parts, if things got better.
This brought us to our newest Cha Cha Challenge: SUPER SENSATIONAL STORIES! We then introduced our movie camera and talked about friends having a chance to record their own stories, over the coming weeks.

Then, it was Choice Time.

Another good day in the Catbird Nest!
