Bubbles and Chicks!

At Music Class today, we were greeted by a surprise. One of the fourth graders came to play on the piano for us. He played three pieces, Allegro, Musette and a third whose name I don't remember. We gave him a rousing applause, and then he answered a few questions for us.

Then Jason taught us a new song, that required four different instruments at different points. We took turns using some new instruments, as we learned the words.

This piece was a challenge, because it required us to listen carefully for cues as to when to play different parts. We also continue to work on hearing the rhythm of songs, and repeating it. Not only is this an important musical skill, it is also one that contributes to our literacy development!

After we came back, friends cleaned up the room for snack, then hid to surprise Carol. There were some unique hiding spots.

As soon as we had eaten, we headed outside and discovered fresh piles of mulch. We raced up and down and around them, "helping" our friends the maintenance guys spread it around.

Then, Carol brought out the Bubble Blaster! We ran and laughed and danced and popped bubbles until they almost ran out.

We came in for Morning Meeting. First, we learned a new hand rhyme about ghosts. Then, we had a Moment of Ghost Noises, followed by a Moment of Silence.

Then, Danielle brought out a big container of water, and we talked about being scientists. Friends shared their ideas about the kinds of things scientists do, then we turned on our science brains. We learned a new word: Prediction.

Danielle showed us two signs that friends had made - one said float and one said sink. She brought out a tomato, and each of the Catbirds predicted whether it would sink or float. Next, we did an experiment to find out.

We tried the same thing with an egg. Danielle explained that we would continue our experiment at Choice Time, and then friends could look around for objects to test. Our results will be posted in our room, and as part of Science Night on Thursday.

Meanwhile, other friends were outside and small groups were going into the kindergarten room, to visit the new chicks - some of which were hatching as we watched! There were other experiments going on in the pond and music being played and things being built.

We decided that it was so nice outside, we would eat lunch in the sunshine. We were joined by the Cardinals and the Doves! Spring has finally arrived!
