¡Bienvenidos! During our most recent clase de Español, it was Natalie’s turn
to choose our destination to a Spanish speaking country. After singing our
morning greeting song, Natalie suggested we head to Argentina, which means “silver in Latin.”
Upon our arrival
to this country where Spanish is the official language, we gathered in a círculo and began our Spanish language
experience. We first read Rebecca Emberley’s, My Animals Mis Animales. This brightly colored board book
introduced us to the Spanish vocabulary for some familiar animals
New Vocabulary
Introduced:
pez – fish
conejo – rabbit
gato – cat
ratón – mouse
pájaro – bird
ardilla - squirrel
cabra – goat
cerdo – pig
totuga – turtle
perro – dog
caballo – horse
gallina – chicken
ganzo – goose
vaca – cow
Afterwards, we
sang the traditional interactive song “Itsy Bitsy Spider”...en Español! We first learned the words to
this great old tune and then we practiced singing it and acting out the hand motions.
Los Catbirds just LOVED this
wonderful fingerplay. The actions are a great way to clarify and reinforce the
meaning of the words so los Catbirds are
able to know what they are singing. What fun they had!
La araña pequeñita
La araña pequeñita subió,
subió, subió.
Vino la lluvia y se la
llevó.
Salió el sol y todo lo
secó,
Y la araña pequeñita
subió, subió, subió.
We finished our
class with our traditional song, Adios,
hasta luego, and Natalie squeezing la vaca. ¡Gracias, Natalie!
¡Hasta
nuestro proximo viaje!
Paz,
Alicia
