Bear Witness and Butterflies

This morning, the Catbirds went through our rocks and each picked out their favorite. We took pictures of their choices and asked each friend to describe what they liked about it, encouraging them to stretch their descriptive skills to include things like feel, color and shape.

Then, they helped put the rocks back in with a smoother grit for another week of tumbling.

We had a meeting after snack to talk about the impending fire drill. Senior Catbirds did their best to instruct young Catbirds on the procedure. We also discussed the loudness and friends gave cover-your-ears suggestions. Then, the alarm went off and we were ready! The Catbirds did great!

Back inside, it was time to take Bear Witness out on another adventure. This time, we headed to Susan's first grade.

We introduced the first graders to BW and explained about the journal.

The first graders explained to us about their caterpillars and chrysalis.

They showed us what the caterpillars eat, what they would turn into and where they would go. They invited us back to see the butterflies when they emerge.

We got to take a look at them.

We talked a bit about our visit...

...then headed out to beat the rain.

The group continues to coalesce.

Some teamwork to close the gates that were opened for the fire drill.

Making play plans.

A story about friendship and kindness.

At Choice Time, some friends played a sound game. They worked at figuring out what was in a series of boxes by shaking them and listening carefully. then they wrote the number of the box under the corresponding picture.
