Catbirds' First Day!

Our day began with friends eagerly coming into the room. The returning Catbirds knew the routine and the new Catbirds quickly began to learn what to do. There was much excitement in the air!

After putting their things away and washing hands, friends began to explore the room.

There were so many things to do.

New friends began preparing huge meals in the kitchen.

The sandbox was an equally popular place.

There was much music and a couple of DJ's.

We worked on some drawings at the table. While friends explored and got to know each other, we paused a few times to learn some "Catbird Ways," like stopping to listen when we hear the chime. We had a morning meeting with a song to learn friends' names and snack.

Then we got our boots and raincoats on to head outside. Here we practiced lining up and getting ready to go out AND the call of the Catbirds that means to come running when we are outdoors.

On our way out, we discussed puddles, and what to do if you wanted to get wet and what to do if you didn't.

Mostly, we wanted to get wet.

Back inside, there was an entire changing of clothes for almost all our wet friends. Then we had story time. Today we read, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" and "Llama Llama Mad at Mama." This year's Catbird class seems full of book lovers!

After our story, we talked about getting ready for lunch, and some Senior Catbirds demonstrated. Soon, we were all hand-washed and unpacked, and we had our first shared moment of silence, before we enjoyed our meal together. We had rest time with some music, and quite a few friends fell asleep. Those who were awake had some book time and then table activities. After everyone was up, we had our end of day meeting and our first day was done. We can't wait for day two!
