A Science Kind of Day

Morning is often baby time in the Catbird room.

Working together on working together.

Some flubber time.

The block area is both a very rewarding and very challenging space for friends, as it taps in to all of the hardest skills and issues. Space, sharing, who can play with who and shortages of needed resources...the same things we deal with as adults and as nations. Often, Catbird teachers spend concerted time helping Catbirds figure out how to make their way through these issues and how to understand eelings on the other side of the block tower.

Name writing pride!

Tower bulding pride.

Teamwork!

Another kind of teamwork.

Friends had puzzles out today, and were working alone and in pairs to challenge themselves.

Our daily jam session.

A movie theater opened in our room. I heard "Trolls" was the feature film.

A solo game of musical chairs. Sometimes its hard to keep up with everything that's going on.

Helping with snack.

Another proud builder.

For today's Meeting for Worship, we invited Paddywhack. Before we brought him over, friends got to figure out what we could do to make him feel safe and comfortable.

Outside, the Catbirds found a beetle whose leg was very tangled up in a long piece of green thread. We got some scissors and carefully freed him, and friends made him a cozy home.

Back inside, we paused to practice our breathing.

Our story today, "Sitting Down to Eat."

Lots of friends liked it and gave it "Moose Ears," (our highest rating).

We decided that the best way to figure out how to take care of our beetle (who has been named, Mr. Thread), was to go to the science room and see what Rasheeda could tell us.

While we were there, we checked out the room.

We visited the bearded dragon.

Rasheeda gave us a new home for our beetle, a vast improvement on the cup he was living in.

We discovered a solar system model on the floor, and figured out what many of the planets were, as well as the sun.
