Español con los Catbirds: Invierno, Frio

¡Bienvenidos familia, amigas y amigos de los Catbirds! This past week was Nora’s turn to choose our destination for our Spanish language experience. After glancing at the map that shows all the countries where Spanish is the primary language spoken, Nora pointed to Argentina. Once we determine our mode of transportation, avión, we raised our alas and flew towards this country. Upon our arrival, we sat and gathered in a círculo.

To reinforce last week’s lesson on the clothing items worn during the winter season, we played a fun pastime of the “Swatter Game.” But, before the game we read Patricia Whitehouse’s, Invierno (Winter). Afterwards, we played the game using flash cards and the fly swatters, los matamoscas.

New vocabulary:
invierno – winter
chimemea – chimney
carámbanos – icicles
sopa calienete – hot soup
nieve - snow
ángeles de nieve – snow angels
muñeco de nieve - snowman
pala – shovel
calefacción - heater

After the game, we concluded our class by dancing to salsa. This time, we teamed up with a partner and practiced the steps; uno, juntos, dos, juntos.... (one, together, two, together.)  Ask us to show you!

We finished our class with our traditional song, Adios, hasta luego, and Nora squeezing la vaca. ¡Gracias, Nora!

 ¡Hasta nuestro proximo viaje!

Paz,

Alicia
