Trying New Things

After beginning our day with what is fast becoming our journaling routine, we had some time to explore and play. Danielle was home sick, so we had a new friend, Barbara, join us today. Some of the Catbirds pitched in and took some of our pictures today (see if you can guess which ones).

It turns out that Barbara is a very good book reader, so we had several stories this morning.

We were also very interested in looking at things - with binoculars, magnifying glasses and just our eyes.

Then, a number of friends got out the scissors and practiced cutting. We made a big pile of rectangles and triangles and saved them for our collages.

It was a very beautiful day outside, and some friends got busy "painting" the wall with water and brushes.

There is an ever increasing amount of dramatic play going on in our outdoor classroom, as friends stretch their imaginations and develop new, more complex scripts with one another. It is a wonderful indication of their developing social skills.

Back inside, we had Morning Meeting (you, by now, have probably grown use to the adorable Moment of Silence pictures). Then, we read, Llama, Llama, Red Pajama, a group favorite. In fact, many of our friends were able to read the rhyming story along with me. We are playing a lot of rhyming games with the Catbirds, which is a very fun pre-literacy activity, and one we encourage you to play at home. Make up a rhyme, and leave the last word off for your child to guess - the sillier the better!
