What We Do In An Unstructured Day

Figure out the mechanics of a new gadget.

Building with new materials.

Negotiating complex social situations. We actually spend a lot of time figuring out new and better ways to work and play together. This means that we have many conversations about feelings, goals and compromise - often with help from a teacher, who asks questions, reflects on whats going on, and helps friends generate their own solutions.

Working on writing.

Engaging in large group dramatic play - we are getting good at this!

Running a business - traveling make-up artists in this case.

Exploring patterns.

Building amazing structures.

Learning to write and count big numbers.

This.

More numbers.

Making faces when Carol says something very silly.

Talking.

Cooking.

Having a Planning meeting (first week all talked about getting shots...no idea why).
At this point, we went downstairs for a game of Monster Tag, because it was only 16 degrees outside and because we love Monster Tag and we really needed to run around.

Morning Meeting.

We listened to a story and then rated it - many Moose Ears. Now, we are asking friends to talk about why they liked or didn't like a story by giving specific examples.

Making music.

Playdough.

Working on a giant floor puzzle that one of the Catbirds brought in to share.

Filling our sandbox with rice.

Playing in it.

Stopping to figure out how many friends can play at a time.

More building. Friends are making some very interesting structures and some are recording what they are doing on their own blogs - (families will be seeing these soon).
