With Our Hands

We had a little time to say hello, and then Alicia came for Spanish.

Friends were very intent on learning the words, and Alicia taught us some songs to help remember them.

After Spanish, we danced and had snack. Then it was time to bundle up and head outside.

We explored and found treasures and made oatmeal and spaghetti (which looked suspiciously like wood chips).

We built a mountain and played tag,

and had more spaghetti.

Then we headed in for Morning Meeting and Choice Time. We sang a few songs, and then had a Moment of Bird Noises and a Moment of Silence. We read a new book called, Will You Be My Friend?  It is a story about a bear trying to make a friend, who keeps doing things that don't work. It was a great way to encourage the Catbirds to think and talk about different ways to approach friends that will make them want to spend time with you.

At Choice Time, we had a table of stencils. These are particularly exciting to friends right now - many of whom are actively trying to draw representationally. The forms allow them an outer boundary within which they can better control their use of the marker.

We also had sensory motor play with shaving cream. Some friends simply enjoy the squishing and squashing, while others use the medium to draw and write in.

Magnatiles were also a popular choice, as friends are constructing some amazing shapes and forms.

There was more planting...

...and some storytelling.

Art at the easel.

Books, of course...

...and wild animals in the sand table.
