We Love Books!

Picture of the Day

It's a new style, sweeping the Catbird room...Backwards Clothes!

After journals, we took a walk over to the library to tell Gwen the kinds of books we are interested in this week. Our topics included: sharks, princesses, Elephant & Piggie, and plants and gardens. Gwen said she would gather some up for us before library time at 10:30 am. While we were there, Gwen let us feed the fish!

Back in our room, friends boarded a bus. They used their maps from yesterday to figure out their destination - which was reportedly the Magic Wand. On board were: a photographer, two doctors, a patient, a seal, and an on-again-off-again driver. It was quite crowded. Consequently, some fights broke out, and they had to let a mediator on board to help with conflict resolution.

When the bus got to it's destination, friends got off and had a delicious snack. Then, it was time for Morning Meeting. Carol was quite excited because she had brought in a book from home that is one of her all time favorites. So, after a Moment of Animal Noises and a Moment of Silence, we read, Sitting Down to Eat. It is a great book for this age, because it has animals and animal sounds, counting and number recognition, a great rhyme and rhythm pattern, and a very surprising ending. Almost all of the Catbirds really liked it!

At the end of our story, it was time to head over to the library. First, we stopped in our classroom library and found books to take back. The Catbirds like returning books into the slot in Gwen's desk. Then, we went to the rug and Gwen read us another very silly story, called, Children Make the Worst Pets!

Next, we got to pick out our own books and take them to be checked out.

We are learning to look for the mark that means a book belongs to the library, instead of to our classroom.

After, we all went back to the rug to look at our new books and to find friends to read to us.

When we were done, we headed back to our room for Choice Time. We had a new Choice today - Dots! These are ink stamper bottles and some friends used them to make designs, while others used them with the stencils. It was a very popular choice.

There were manipulatives out in the writing area,

and animals and forests in the sand table.

Some friends learned how to make a jump rope out of the chain links, and practiced their swinging and jumping skills.
