Somersaults!

Picture of the Day

Our morning began with reading, journals and somersaults.

Friends discovered a new use for our boxes. They realized that the surface gave them just enough leverage to make it easier to flip over. Soon, many friends got in on the action.

After Snack, we headed outside into weather that was strikingly different than last week's. We spent our time running, playing music, digging, and negotiating complex games.

Soon, it was time to head to Art Class with Sam. She explained to us that she had taken the bowls that we made last time and fired them in a very hot oven. Now, she explained, they were more like the bowls we eat out of - and just as fragile. She gave each of the Catbirds their bowl back, and explained how we would be putting a very special kind of paint on them, called glaze. She gave us sponges and containers with glaze in them, and demonstrated how to do it. Then, we were off and sponging!

After we finished glazing, Sam told us that she was gong to put our bowls back in the kiln to fire the glaze. She told us that the glazes would change colors in the kiln and we will be very surprised when we see them next!

Our bowls complete, we moved over to another table, where we got to paint on a giant piece of paper. We used various shades of blue and kept switching seats so that we could get the paint all over. We may use some of these for our Art Show Project.

Meanwhile, a friend who missed our last Art Class got to make her bowl.

Back in Catbird Land, we settled in for Morning Meeting. We sang a few of our favorite songs and Carol showed friends one of the new Choices - using droppers to paint with Liquid Watercolors. The droppers require a certain kind of fine motor skill, as well as remembering the sequence necessary to fill and empty the droppers. We also had: Sand Table, Puzzles, Pretend Play and Books for Choices.
