The Many Senses of SNOW

But first, there was music class.

Two fourth graders were there to perform on their recorders.

We were their first audience, and the songs were lovely.

Then, we got to drum. Jason let us play loud and fast - which makes us very happy and silly.

Then, we worked on playing in rhythm, as well as fast, slow, loud and soft.

We love drumming.

As we are leaving, Jason lets each of us have a turn on the piano.

We stopped at many windows on the way back, to check out the snow.

Back in our room, we worked on our journals. Some friends had other kinds of projects going, like cutting...

...photography...

...playing with crocodiles...

...and making crocodiles.

We cleaned up and had snack. We are passing and pouring with greater ease.

Then, we booted and coated and hatted and gloved and excitedly headed out to play in the snow!

Many friends could not resist tasting it, and we talked about the flavor of snow.

It was also particularly good for touching, and snowballs were easily formed.

We also noticed that this snow made a special sound when we walked in it. It was great for leaving footprints.

We tossed it around and at each other.

We stuck it to a tree.

We made mini snowmen and friends found eyes and noses and other accessories for them.

Friends built a big snowman...and knocked it down.

It wasn't until we were pretty soaked, that friend were ready to head inside. On the way in, we stopped to do  the Snow Stomping Dance.

After we'd gotten all of our wet things off, we gathered on the Morning Meeting rug, and took turns petting Popcorn, the guinea pig. The Catbird's were very excited, so first we had to calm ourselves down so that we wouldn't scare here.

Friends really enjoyed spending some up close time with Popcorn - and she seemed to like it, too.

Next, we read a story about where animals go in the winter time. Friends enjoyed guessing and talking about what different kinds of animals do in the cold weather.

We had a rather brief Choice Time, because we had gotten to spend so much time out playing in the snow. Friends chose between: Photography, Sand Table and Drawing (white crayon on black paper, in honor of our snowy day).
