Stories, Building & More Stories

Our morning began with puzzles and building and journals.

After a delicious snack - which included apples, pita, hummus and Rice Krispie Treats brought in by one of our parents today - we headed outside. Many friends continued to work on their building skills, and we had many discussions about how to get pieces to stay, to balance and to hold weight.

The Catbirds tried to figure out how you could tell if a piece would fall, and what to do to hold it in place. Theories about what made a structure "weak" or "strong," abounded.

Friends were also demonstrating their new level of gross motor coordination, as some are now able to race across the stumps at amazing speeds!

And still other Catbirds were creating mountains with feet and shovels. It was a morning of science, engineering and architecture.

...with musical interludes.

Next, we came in for Library time. We returned the books we were finished with, and gathered on the rug for a story.

Gwen read us,  A Friend for Einstein, a true story about the world's smallest horse and his search for a friend. It had wonderful photographs, and a story that was uncannily familiar to the Catbirds. In it, Einstein searches for a friend who likes to do the same kinds of things he does, but finds many who have very different ideas!

We checked out new books, and took some time to look at them and read a few.

We headed back for Morning Meeting. First we had a Moment of Animal and Teacher sounds (apparently, we mostly say, "Go to the bathroom."), the a Moment of Silence.

One of our Choices today was to listen to the 2nd graders tell stories that they have memorized. Four friends came and each told a short fable.

The sand table was also open,

as were stencils and ink.

Before we knew it, it was time for a story and lunch.
