¡Saludos
a todos; familia, amigas, y amigos! Greetings to all! During our recent clase de Español, Los Catbirds flew into Puerto Rico and settled into this Spanish
speaking country. Upon our arrival, we gathered and sat in a círculo and began our traditional
greeting. Each Catbird was encouraged to greet the teacher with a hand shake and
the following dialogue:
Alicia: ¡Benos
día _________!
Child: ¡Buenos
día Alicia!
Alicia: ¿Cómo
estás?
Child: ¡Muy
bien, gracias!
Our
greeting is then followed by the following song that is sang to the tune of
“Are You Sleeping”
¿Cómo
estás?, ¿Cómo estás?
Yo
muy bien gracias, yo muy bien gracias.
¿Y
tú? ¿Y tú?
To connect with the Catbirds’ current interest on sounds, we read a book by Vita Jiménez, ¿Qué sonidos hay? (What sounds are there?) in which the text and pictures describe various aspects of sounds.
Afterwards, we got the chance to work on a puzzle of a train. Each Catbird was giving one piece of the puzzle and going around in a círculo, each took a turn on placing his or her piece of the puzzle. But, this was not just any puzzle, it was a puzzle that when the last piece is inserted, it makes the sound of a choo-choo train. Wow! How exciting! The Catbirds were then invited to stand up, get-on the train, and choo-choo around the room. ¡Qué divertido! How fun! We even got the chance to keep the puzzle in our classroom so that we can play with it.
Other
than those used for greeting, the Catbirds are also learning the
following Spanish vocabulary words:

favor - please
