Breaking Bread (and Butter) Together

Yesterday's table time.

This morning.

Reading time.

Decorating the Mystery Box.

Today, we had our own Meeting for Worship in the classroom. Each Catbird had a block and we silently took turns putting them together - breathing between each piece. It was a good way for us to focus our attention and slow our breathing.

Next, it was library time. We took all of our books back and settled in to listen to Doris read some non-fiction animal books to us.

Then we took some time to choose more books for our library.

We braided up our Challah dough that we made on Monday, turned on the oven and headed outside.

The sun was out!

While we got some much needed sun and running in, we also got out our butter churn and took turns cranking the handle.

It took a lot of turning and then, suddenly - BUTTER!

We had some drumming, dancing and singing time.

Friends joined in on the xylophone.

At Morning Meeting, we talked about the differences between today and yesterday. Friends noticed:
1. Today was sunny!
2. Today we got to play outside for a long time.
3. Today we made butter and bread.
4. Sparkles came back today!
5. Today we have a Mystery Box

We had a brief Choice Time. Some friends looked at our new library books.

Friends made some art.

Others built houses for our hexbugs.

And there was playdough.

Friends spent some quality time with Sparkles.

Before our half day friends left, we gathered at the tables. Carol explained the idea of "breaking bread together" as an act of friendship. Then we broke bread and slathered it with fresh butter. It was warm and delicious. We sang goodbye to our half day friends and gathered for lunch.

After lunch, we gathered to begin our guessing for the new Mystery Box.

Friends picked it up and shook it.

Then started to guess. We uncovered several cues, but no guesses yet.
