There Be Dragons!

This morning, some friends had a long conversation about all different kinds of firefighters, their equipment, vehicles and different kinds of fires - all growing from a new library book.

Others worked together on the word puzzles - sneaking in some reading as they went.

Then it was time for Spanish!

After snack, we headed outside and got ready to go on an adventure.

First, we learned a new pirate song. Then, we went in search of two, very important things - new Magic Wands (ours broke yesterday, and we have been without magic for more than 24 hours!) and...DRAGONS! (They are often found near places where there are magic wands.).

We searched through the forest, and each friend found a wand that fit their hand. We discussed the math concepts of shorter and longer, fatter and skinnier, heavier and lighter, and more and less magical.

The Catbirds compared wands.

Once most friends had wands in hand, we went in search of dragons.

First, we found a piece of dragon tail.

We snuck up on some dragon birds.

We discovered bits of dragon food, and dragon feathers.

There were tiny dragon eggs.

And dragon claws!

We saw some HUGE dragon footprints, burned into the ground.

We found a plaque with what we assumed was a dragon name on it (pronounced SEE-WER).

There was a place where the dragons stored their food.

Most significantly, we discovered a Giant Dragon's Nest!

It was obviously the lair of a dragon, because there were pieces of charred wood nearby!
Although we didn't spot the actual dragons, we did unearth some pretty compelling evidence of their existence. The Catbirds loved our dragon hunt, and it was an activity that was both fun and encouraged friends to exercise creativity, imagination and the ability to think flexibly - finding new possibilities and perspectives about what others might see as ordinary objects.

On the way home from our quest, we stopped to climb and swing.

At Morning Meeting, we talked about stomachs, and why they make noises. When we had our moment of silence, we tried to listen for stomach noises.

We listened to a new story, Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs. It was very popular.

At Choice Time, we painted our Magic Wands.

Some friends built elaborate castles.

Worked on portraits...

Read books...

And played games.

Another wonderful day.
