'Scary Stories and Other Stuff

This morning, we sorted books to get ready to return some to the library. This is a very complicated task, as there are multiple cues to determine which are library books, as opposed to classroom books or books brought from home (and sometimes from other libraries). We worked hard at developing a list of "if-then's," to help us decide which pile to put books in.

Before we knew it, it was time for Spanish class.

We had a bit of time to create.

Friends had much to do - including the ongoing measuring project.

Then it was time for rehearsal!

We made good use of our time waiting, by making funny noises and faces in the hallway.

After rehearsal, we snuck out through the kitchen, then we boarded our rocket ship and went in search of aliens (they seem to be everywhere!).

We headed outside, where we discovered yet another layer of very soft snow, on top of the crunchy snow from yesterday.

There were monsters on the playground that had to be outrun.

We discovered many large bits of ice!

At Morning Meeting, Amy and Carol could not remember the words to "Open-Shut Them," so we kept singing it wrong!

The Catbirds thought this was very funny.

Finally, they taught it to us the right way!

For Choice Time, we made some bird seed ornaments for WinterFest (after we hang them inside, we will take them out and give them to the birds!). We began by putting flour on our noses, because this is how Carol begins all cooking/mixing projects that involve flour.

Other friends played games with Heidi.

And there were puppies with headphones...who knows why?

Library was a Choice today, so some friends returned books and brought some new ones over.

Amazing buildings were build.

New books were shared with friends.

Costumes were worn and music was played.

We worked on our Super-Secret Art Project.

Lunch was a little wild...

Friends took turns telling Scary Stories, which have a very specific structure in the Catbird Classroom.
It is always, DARK, DARK, DARK (Bum, Bum BUM), some kind of monsters come. The Catbirds are called to the rescue, and they are individually polled as to whether they came. And, after the monster is taken care of...

...there is a dance party!
