¡Bienvenidos familia, amigas y amigos de los
Catbirds! This past week was Xavier’s turn to choose our destination for
our Spanish language experience. After glancing at the map, he pointed to the
Spanish speaking country where millions of monarch butterflies migrate every
year, Mexico. Once we determine our
mode of transportation, avión, we
raised our alas and flew towards this
country. Upon our arrival, we sat and gathered in a círculo.
To reinforce last
week’s lesson on parts of the body, we played the “Swatter Game” using flash
cards and the fly swatters, los matamoscas. Los Catbirds did an amazing
job!
Vocabulary reviewed:
Cabeza – head
Ojos- eyes
Boca - mouth
Nariz -nose
The more something
is repeated, the more likely children are to remember it and, if provided in a
variety of forms, it increases the likelihood of reaching children with
different learning styles. Therefore, after the Swatter Game we practiced moving
to the Head and Shoulders song.
Head and Shoulders
- Cabeza y hombros
Cabeza, hombros, rodillas
y dos pies
Cabeza, hombros, rodillas
y dos pies
y dos pies
Cabeza, hombros, rodillas
y dos pies
Ojos, oidos, boca y una nariz
Cabeza, hombros, rodillas
y dos pies
Cabeza, hombros, rodillas
y dos pies
Following the
action song, we rehearsed the salsa dance moves with a partner. In between the uno, juntos, dos, juntos...steps, we
practiced swinging our cintura (hips)
and moving our hombros (shoulders). This
repetitive practice is sure helping us master the steps as we get closer to our
assembly debut. Stay tuned...
We finished our
class with our traditional song, Adios,
hasta luego, and Xavier squeezing la vaca. ¡Gracias, Xavier!
¡Hasta
nuestro proximo viaje!
Paz,
Alicia
