¡Bienvenidos familia, amigas, y amigos!
During la clase de Español, it was Hadley’s
turn to choose our destination to a Spanish speaking country. After our
traditional morning greeting in Spanish, she suggested we head to Mexico. Upon
our return, we settled into this Spanish speaking country and gathered in a círculo.
Since we start all
our clases determining what mode of
transportation we need to take to get to our destination, we thought it would
be great to learn some forms of moving. So, we began our clase de Español reviewing the Spanish vocabulary words for some
types of transportation as well as learning new ones.
During our previous
clase de Español in which Xavier
chose Venezuela as our destination, we read Barron’s book, “Transportation/El
transporte.” This book gave us the opportunity to connect the words for
different kinds of transportation to its corresponding picture.
carro - car
bote - boat
autobús - bus
camión - truck
bicicleta - bicycle
excavadora – digger
tren – train
motocicleta –
motorcycle
avión – airplane
At our recent clase de Español, we read Cecilia Pisos’
book, “El baúl de los transportes” (A trunk of transports). This book helped us
review the Spanish vocabulary for some forms of transportation as well as help
us practice basic math concepts such as counting.
After
the read aloud, we played the Swatter Game
using life-like pictures of four different styles of transportation; bote, avión, tren, y bicicleta. What a
fruitful and fun way to help Los Catbirds
reinforce learning!
We finished our class with our
traditional song, Adios, hasta luego, and
Hadley squeezing la vaca. ¡Gracias, Hadley!
¡Hasta nuestro proximo viaje!
Paz,
Alicia
