Learning Coins and Writing Stories

We went searching for plastic frogs today. We found 2. We need 3 more.

Then we went to meeting for worship (MFW) in the music room with the Cardinals and the kindergarteners.

After we broke the silence, we sang, "This Little Light of Mine."

We had snack.

And some time in the garden.

We went inside for a lesson with Vicki, our student teacher, about coins.

Then we got to put some change in our machine.

We had lots of time outside, while some friends worked one on one with a teacher. For the next week or so, we will be focused on two tasks during journaling time. First, we are assessing writing, and name writing skills in particular. For our youngest, this is a review of pencil grip - how they hold and move a writing implement and what kinds of squiggles and shapes they can produce. For older Catbirds, we are looking at how clearly they can write the letters of their name and how much support they need to do so.
We are also beginning storytelling with all of our friends, this time using a photograph of themselves as a prompt. Again, younger friends stories may be brief and non-sequential, and we will ask quite a few questions to help them add to their stories. For older friends, we are encouraging sequence and description as well as a growing ability to hold to a story line and characters.

Back inside for letter sounds. We are up to K!
