This morning began with our usual Monday morning routine. Catbirds came into the classroom excited to share weekend news, and after completing morning jobs they settled into some open choice time.
Soon, however, we had a special visitor at our door! Paula came to read our Book of the Week to us!.She brought a book called In My Heart, that examined the many very different feelings that one person is capable of experiencing, from happiness, to sadness, to courage, and everything in between.
After reading the book, Paula led a discussion about how the book, with all of the different feelings the main character experienced, relates to the Catbirds! She asked each child to think about the many different feelings each of them experiences in their own hearts every day.
And, in her very generous Paula style, she shared with the children a special treat she had also brought with her: cookies and heart stickers!
Each Catbird shared one feeling they often feel in their hearts, and explained what causes that feeling as they picked a heart sticker from Paula.
After our book, we went back to choice time...
As we worked, we received more visitors! Seventh grade friends came into the room to play with us as a part of a community building activity!
After a little inside exploration with our big kid friends, we took them outside to show them around our playground.
It was a busy Monday, full of fun sharing time with all of our wonderful visitors!
