What is Unfair?

In Spanish, Alicia started a book about a girl named Graciela who likes to pretend.

Then we practiced our animal names.

Friends created imaginary instruments.

And amazing constructions.

In honor of this week, which is part of our Black Lives Matter curriculum, we started a discussion about fairness and what it means for something to be fair or unfair. The Catbirds had a wonderful discussion about their thoughts and experiences around fairness. Then, we read a book entitled, "This is Not My Hat," and discussed whether the things that happened were fair or unfair.

This conversation will continue throughout the week, with books and discussions daily. The Catbirds talked about these ideas throughout the day, so it clearly resonated with them.

Then we had a birthday snack and celebration.

Then it was time for art. Amanda introduced us to an artist named Beverly Buchanan (https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-fiercely-independent-artist-beverly-buchanan-finally-gets-the-retrospective-she-deserves, who has done some house sculptures similar to the ones friends are working on.

Then the Catbirds added color to the pieces we started last week.

Then we headed outside on this lovely spring...er, winter day.
