The Elmwood Zoo at A Step Up Academy

After our morning warm up, we headed out under our tarp to see our friends at A Step Up Academy.

The walk over was lots of wet fun.

When we got there, the Elmwood Zoo people were there to show and tell us about some animals.

To introduce the first animal, she had us do push ups, because this animal does push ups to impress its mate.

She introduced us to a black lizard and we all got a close up look.

Then we got to touch a lizard skin, to see how it felt (for the safety of the animals, we didn't touch them).

Next, we bent down and touched our knees, then our toes. She asked if anyone could touch their toes with their mouth, because the next animal could!

It was a ferret! We didn't touch it but we did smell it. It was very stinky!

Then we got to touch a mink pelt. She made sure to tell us that these animals died of natural causes and were donated to the zoo for educational purposes.

Bext, we flapped our wings (did jumping jacks) to get ready for the final animal.

It was Munchkin, the one-eyed screech owl. She was in an accident and lost her eye, which is why she cant be set free.

We had to be extra calm and quiet for her.

Then they brought some feathers from a much larger owl for us to look at and touch.

After, our friends invited us to stay and play for awhile.

We were excited to check out the new toys and had a chance to play with some new friends.

It had stopped raining by the time we headed back and there were some HUGE puddles to check out.

Including the small lake on our own playground!

It was a great morning!
