Birdhouses and Body Socks

Our morning began with water play, magnatiles and trains.

The new track took up much of the room, as friends worked out some new resigns.

We finished up sewing our body socks.

Then we tried them out! The body socks are a great deal of fun, and they also have a variety of useful benefits. These include:

  1. Self-Regulation-The proprioceptive input facilitated by the body sock provides deep pressure to the child’s entire body. This input is very calming and can assist with regulation of the child’s arousal level.
  1. Endurance-Due to the resistant nature of the body sock, the child will naturally work on his strength and endurance while completing activities wearing the sock.
  1. Body Awareness-The input provided by the body sock facilitates body awareness by giving the child additional feedback about where their body parts are in relation to one another in the sock.

After snack and clean up, we headed out into the sunshine.

In morning meeting, we did some breathing exercises.

Our book today, "The Girl Who Wore Snacks," met with very mixed reviews. Turns out, many of the Catbirds are somewhat leery of snakes and this led to some low opinions of the books heroine.

We reviewed the anatomy of a birdhouse and figured out how many sides they should have. We reviewed the process of reconstructing them.

Then we set to work on them.
