Today the Catbird class took some time out of the usual morning routine to honor the passing of our classroom friend, the guinea pig Popcorn.
After thinking yesterday about how we would most like to show our love and appreciation for all that Popcorn provided us and former Catbirds for several happy years, it was decided we would hold a funeral service and lay our furry friend to rest in our community garden area.
Each child was given the opportunity to lay a piece of Popcorn's favorite snack, grass, with her in the ground and to say goodbye one last time.
And with the musical assistance of Raji and his guitar, we joined together to sing This Little Light of Mine in Popcorn's memory.
The Catbirds then marked Popcorn's resting place with beautiful flowers which we know she would have loved.
