Birthday Smoothies!

So glad to be back together - everyone got right into the morning routine.

We had a new, 3-D puzzle that had to be prepped.

A very ambitious building project was begun.

Many friends worked on the structure.

Friends checked out their favorite places and spaces.

We made sure no one had eaten too much growing food over break.

And the building continued to grow.

Pictures were drawn.

The new ribbon was put into the typewriter.

Then, it was time to make, BIRTHDAY SMOOTHIES!

There were lots of ingredients, and friends were eager to help.

Meanwhile, the building turned into a megaplex movie theater with a swimming pool!

We added fruit.

Then, we put in vegetables.

We took turns pushing all of the buttons on the blender

Most of the Catbirds LOVED the smoothie.

Even a few unexpected friends (oh yes he did drink it!)

This was the first one we made.

Then, we started another batch with different fruits and vegetables.

We munched on some of the leftovers.

We also had some birthday minchkins, to counterbalance all of that growing food.

Next, we headed outside.

The Catbirds had plenty of strength and speed, after our super healthy snack.

The building continued outside.

Back inside, we gathered for Morning Meeting - we started to sing, "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes," but friends insisted we sing it in Spanish.

After our moment of silence, we began to discuss our new study: Superheroes, Princes and Princesses. This study came at the direct request of the Catbirds, and has a wide variety of menings to our classroom community. We will be working to define what these terms mean, and who is included. We began by asking friends to tell us anything they knew about any of these groups.

Interestingly, we found some overlap between the groups. Next, we will discuss what we would like to learn. Frankly, I have no idea where this study will take su - it is the nature of an emergent curriculum. However, these identities are clearly important to most of the Catbirds, and we will follow this interest through literacy, math, science, art and more!

After our discussion, we read a new book, Not All Princesses Wear Pink - about princesses that do all kinds of things - always wearing their sparkly crowns.

Choice Time included: Flubber, Dragon Painting (the 3-D puzzle), Building, Books, Bey Blades, Sandbox and Dramatic Play.

At naptime, we started a new chapter book, Melvin Beederman - Superhero: The Curse of the Bologna Sandwich.
