Science Class: Meal Worm Mazes

Catbirds are much into art, origami and airplanes right now.

This will be my unexplainable picture for today.

Catbirds had some excellent ideas at Morning Huddle for things they wanted to do today.

First on the list was emptying the rice and corn out of the table.

The team grew larger as the project progressed.

There were different theories as to whether we could use the spigot to empty the last remnants.

It worked!

We got out the vacuum to get out the last bits.

Another committee formed for vacuuming.

After snack, we had Morning Meeting.

Our Moments of Silence.

WE reviewed the Choices and talked about our special event - Science Class with Rosanne, who would teach us about meal worms. Every Catbird decided that they wouldn't mind handling a meal worm.

Choice Time included: Books...

Smashing Pumpkins (to get the seeds, not the band)...

Legos...

...and painting on paper towels (this was a specific Catbird request).

We also filled the table with water.

Then it was time for Science. Rosanne told us about meal worms, and the stages that they go through.

She read us a book, and friends had many good questions and ideas.

Then everyone got a tray and blocks to build a maze or house for their meal worm.

And then a meal worm!

The Catbirds made scientific observations about their mealworms' behavior and appearance.

They added oatmeal to their trays and watched them eat.

We checked them out from all angles.

The Catbirds also examined the other creatures that live in the Science Room.

We helped put our meal worms away and thanked Rosanne.

We had a few minutes outside before it was time for lunch.
