Week 3 Highlights

The Catbirds are having fun and learning a range of skills in PE class.

Throwing and catching develop eye hand coordination.

Rolling the circles and jumping over them in motion was a big challenge.

Tossing scarves requires different kinds of timing and coordination.

We read a book called "Blueberry Cake," and then decided to make blueberry cake. This was our first baking together.

They were great at following directions and taking turns!

The much coveted egg breaking job.

Measuring and pouring.

It was delicious!

A new instrument in the room.

We had our first puppet show, where the Catbirds had to help the puppets figure out how to solve a problem. We often use this format to help friends work through social problems that have emerged in the classroom. This one was a friend saying no when the other asked to play and the resulting breaking of his building. Many of our friends focused on the injustice of being told "No."

Then it was time for an adventure! We took binoculars, magnifying glasses and our wagon to hold treasures.

Then we were off!

We crossed giant fields. Adventures are great fun, and also an important way to work on skills like following multiple step directions and noticing things in the environment.

We headed to the creek for some exploring and fishing (we mostly caught algae).

Having sticks lets friends extend their reach and also requires them to be increasingly aware of themselves in relation to people and things in their environment.

We headed to the chestnut tree to find new treasures.

This week was the first holding of one of the guinea pigs (Steve). The guinea pigs are amazingly calm and gentle animals, but they do require friends to be equally calm and gentle.

The Catbirds did a great job speaking and petting Steve quietly and in the right direction. It was a wonderful end to a great week.
