Talking Trash

The sun through our new shade.

Morning sign in.

At art class this morning, Donna led a discussion about texture and passed around some items for the Catbirds to compare.

She explained the next part of our two part creation.

Then we were off creating new patterns and textures.

Our book of the week,
"Anansi and the Moss Covered Rock" was a huge hit with friends. The Catbirds seem to particularly enjoy African folktales and Anansi is a wonderful character that we will be taking some time to explore. For those unfamiliar with him:

Anansi (/əˈnɑːnsi/ ə-NAHN-see) is an African folktale character. He often takes the shape of a spider and is considered to be the spirit of all knowledge of stories. He is also one of the most important characters of West African and Caribbean folklore.

Snack time!

Then it was time to head outside on this glorious day!

At morning meeting, we had a discussion about trash. Carol brought all three trash cans into the circle and we discussed why we have three. We talked about recycling and where our trash goes, and pointed out that we have one can for garbage like food items and messy stuff, one for regular trash and one for recycling. We talked about the triangle on things that can be recycled and how we need to rinse them out first.
Then we had a quiz! The Catbirds loved itand demonstrated their new knowledge at lunchtime.

We also had a demonstration of how to draw a self portrait.

Friends began working on their self portraits.
