Matching faces to the book.

Spanish class

Learning numbers and colors in Spanish

This morning, friends started a discussion about throwing up and specifically which animals do and do not throw up. We did learn that horses don't and the Catbirds wanted to know more.

So we went to see Rasheeda in the science room to ask her.

Rasheeda told us about some very interesting animals and answered friends' questions about everything from bugs to sea creatures to giraffes.

Friends got to pick animals out of Rasheeda's toy bin and then ask about those.

Then we stopped to visit the snake and turtle (both of whom do throw up), and headed out.
Young children are fascinated by bodily functions, and this outing was the first time this year that we have explored outside ways to get answers to questions that emerge naturally from the group.

Wednesday

Today we started our Catbird Helper's jobs. The Catbirds were excited to pick names for each role. Come check it out at drop off.

We had our first Meeting for Worship with all of the EC classes in the Music room today. We worked on quieting or bodies and focusing on our breathing

Storytime

In Art class, we talked about many different shapes.

Then we used shapes to make some art.

We each got scissors and learned how to carry and hold them with the right grip.

Then we cut out shapes for our art.

We concentrated on cutting straight.

Back in the classrrom, we gathered for a discussion about sleep. The Catbirds had lots to say about how they sleep and what makes it easy and hard. They discussed dreams, both good and bad. Many of us are just learning how to have a group discussion, and these are important skills. We will undoubtedly talk about sleeping again.

This is a fun activity that we challenged the Catbirds to do.  They had to first name as many of the colors as they could. Next, they had to use a wooden spoon to place each ball into it's matching cup. They were timed, to encourage them to work quickly. This task was a way to get a sense of each child's fine motor coordination and color knowledge, as well as to enhance their eye/hand coordination.

Thursday

A praying mantis came to our window today!

We spent some time watching it.

Cheers to drinking water together
