Catbird week of October 10 - 14, 2022

This week, we took our interest in speed and how fast things go to the Upper School to meet with Jordan Burkey, who teaches physics. He had his speed radar ready to go, attached to a big screen. We carefully made a track with tape on the floor and then each Catbird waited for their signal. "On your mark, get set, GO!"

Jordan told each child their number speed, AND the speed it compared to in animal terms:

(Slower end)
Sleepy bear (aka Donna Russo)
Alligator sneaking through a pond
Elephant crossing a river
Catbird searching for a worm
Bear running through the forest
Bunny hopping through a garden
Tiger chasing your tail
Cat chasing after a mouse
Dog chasing a frisbee
Monkey swinging in a tree
Lion charging through the grass
Horse jumping over a fence
Dolphin jumping in the waves
Kangaroo jumping
Owl swooping through the trees
(Faster end)

We also instituted our job chart this week, after much discussion about what our jobs could be (Sadly, Storm Chaser did not make the final cut). Here is a friend doing morning attendance on the computer.

Storytime in the library.

Fort building

Fishing for letters

Another classroom job, feeding the guinea pigs

Using our nutcracker squirrel to break crayons that we are melting down to make our alphabet

Justin came by to sing some songs with us.

PE Class

Spanish class. We are learning body parts.

This week, thanks to a parent, the Catbirds got to try a strange fruit - rambutan. It was a first for teachers also and it was wonderful to encourage friends to try something new. Many of them enjoyed the new taste sensation and even those who did not were proud of having tasted the strange looking fruit.
